Banking and ATMs

ATM facilities can be found locally. Banking services are available in the adjoining towns of Paihia, Kawakawa and Kerikeri. If you are going to be here for a while you may want to open an account with one of these banks and get an EFTPOS card (cash card). It will minimise the foreign transaction fees on your offshore credit card. Some businesses charge a 1.5% fee to use a credit card but no fee for an EFTPOS card.
You will most likely need an IRD (tax) number to open an account.

Bicycling

Roads can be hilly and narrow around the marina and remember, helmets are required to be worn by law. During your stay be sure to cycle or walk the Twin Coast Cycle Trail (http://www.twincoastcycletrail.kiwi.nz/)which starts just behind the boatyard. The local company Top Trail rents bikes and gear for the ride and delivers these to the marina.

Electricity

A current NZ Electrical Warrant of Fitness is required if the vessel is hardwired which is required to be sighted by the Marina staff or hard copy to be provided to the Marina office during registration process. If your vessel is not hardwired, please discuss options with the Marina office before plugging in. The Marina office staff are able to arrange an electrician to check your boat and issue the required certificate if needed.

Power is 240 Volt, 50 Hz
Up to 16 meter berths: 16 amp

Connection is with a blue male connector. All power leads must be tagged and tested by a certified electrical company and proof shown to our marina office when requested. Every power point is protected by its own RCD, which is mounted above the plug socket.
A temporary connection to shore power can be made available by hiring a shore connection cable and power connection box from the Marina office.

Transfer of fuel

Under no circumstances is any vessel permitted to refuel in the marina, on the wharf or boat yard jetty, by their own personal means. Be that privately owned fuel tanker or jerry can . For further information on the regulations under the Maritime transportation act (http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1994/0104/latest/DLM334660.html)please come and see us in the office.
Strong tidal eddies can occur at the fuel berth in peak tidal flow conditions on an outgoing tide. If you are unfamiliar with the marina we suggest that you visit the fuel berth around slack water or on an incoming tide.
LPG is available at the Caltex fuel station in Paihia opposite the Countdown Supermarket.

Insurance

Third Party Insurance is the minimum required for all boats visiting the marina with a minimum of $5,000,000. You will need to provide a CURRENT certificate of Insurance when you check into the Marina office when confirming your berthing arrangements.

Marina Depth

Depths within the marina range from 2-11 metres at mean low water. Let the marina office know the draft of your boat and they will allocate a berth accordingly.

Marina Key Fob

Available from the Marina office for a refundable deposit of $50.00.
This will give you 24/7 access to marina piers, showers/toilets, visitors lounge and rubbish compounds. These access devices are not to be shared with unauthorized users and Pier gates and facility doors must be closed by berth users and must not be ‘wedged open’.

The office is located on the ground level of the marina building next to the laundry. The building also has the café, boat insurance and boat brokerage services.

Mooring Lines

Mooring Lines are the responsibility of the boat owner. If lines are provided on the berth, they will be owned by the berth holder. Please DO NOT alter these in any way. Our preference is that you provide your own lines. Always have extra lines ready as some berth owners do remove their lines when they rent out the berth.

No Discharge

The Bay of Islands has a no discharge policy and a zero tolerance for offenders. Boats within the marina must comply with this rule. Security checks are conducted to ensure that the diverter or thru-hull have been locked.
Please respect our pristine cruising grounds and use our free pump-out facilities provided by the marina and on each of the wharf berths.
The pump-out facility is located on the fuel dock and is self-serve – available 24/7 and is free of charge. The BOI Marina and Mooring field are NO DISCHARGE AREAS. Please be sure to use your holding tanks and the on-shore facilities. Seals are provided to seal toilets on check-in, this is compulsory and our Marina staff will ask to check that your boat is complying. Bay of Islands Marina appreciate your support.

Oil Disposal

Available at the boatyard. Please carefully transfer your waste oil into the holding container and put your empty container in the recycling area.

No welding, grinding, sand/water blasting or spray painting is permitted within the marina. We can offer you a spot on our work jetty or on our hardstand at the boatyard for these jobs to be carried out. Health & Safety
When employing a contractor to work on your vessel it is the boat owners responsibility to ensure that the contractor has signed in with the Marina or Boatyard office and that you are dealing with a Certified Tradesman and that the Boat and Contractor have the necessary insurance.

There is a free service available on the fuel dock. For vessels berthed at the Opua Wharf berths there are pump out facilities. A fee applies. Ask the marina office staff for assistance.

Superyacht Facilities

Superyachts are an increasingly frequent sight in New Zealand’s Bay of Islands thanks to a purpose-built 120 metre pontoon at Opua Wharf which makes tying up here a more attractive option for luxury vessels.
The absence of purpose-built regional mooring facilities has, until now, limited interest in New Zealand as a destination among superyacht owners and skippers and discouraged them from cruising New Zealand waters.
But now the Opua pontoon is enabling the Bay of Islands to host and service superyachts to an extent that was simply not possible previously.
Luxury vessels like the Sea Eagle II, the world’s largest aluminium yacht, can berth here while clearing quarantine before cruising the bay with its pristine teal waters, 144 emerald green islands and caramel beaches. Or undergoing refit and repair work at the Opua Marine Hub, one of the South Pacific’s leading marine service hubs, with nearly 50 specialist businesses on site.
The facility is fully serviced with three-phase power (125 amp and 63 amp), water and pump-out facilities, and rubbish collection. Access is controlled through a keypad-secured entrance and NZ Customs and biosecurity staff are based only a short walk away. Professional shore side support is also available.

Tender services and Tidal flow

Bay of Islands Marina is situated at the confluence of a river system and large sea channel. A tidal flow can be experienced of up to 1.8knts on peak ebb flows. This can make berthing in some berths in the marina a little challenging for those unfamiliar with the marina. If you require any assistance berthing please contact the marina office on Channel 73 requesting such assistance. Tender assistance has a small charge and staff will catch lines at no charge.

Waste /Rubbish and Recycling

Casual users – $5.00 per bag
Recycling – Free for berth-holders or marina users
Refuse & recycle centres are located opposite B & H piers for marina users.
Waste oil can be disposed of in the container at the southern end of the marina car park. Oil for disposal, must be uncontaminated – NO DIESEL.
Old batteries may be left near the waste oil container.

Water

Water from marina taps is drinkable, but chlorinated. 
Please disconnect your hose and turn off taps after use to save water and reduce trip hazards.
