Bay of Islands Race Week — Summer Sailing at Its Best
Bay of Islands Race Week returns this January, bringing one of New Zealand’s most iconic summer regattas back to our waters. Running from 19 to 23 January, the event has grown into the country’s biggest multi-day sailing regatta for keelboats, trailer yachts and multihulls, attracting competitive crews from across Aotearoa and a steadily growing number of international teams.
A Stand-Out Week on the Water
Known for its perfect blend of brilliant racing conditions and spectacular scenery, the Bay of Islands sets the stage for fast, tactical racing across multiple divisions. Each year brings a mix of seasoned competitors, passionate amateurs and newcomers looking to experience the region’s unique blend of challenge and charm.
The variety of classes keeps the week exciting, with packed start lines and tight competition expected once again.

A Summer Festival for Sailors and Spectators
Race Week is as much about the onshore atmosphere as the time spent on the water. The social calendar is always a highlight, with relaxed gatherings, post-race catch-ups and the famous beach party at Otehei Bay creating a lively, summery buzz. Whether you are competing, crewing, or simply enjoying the spectacle from shore, it’s a week that celebrates sailing culture at its best.
A True Bay of Islands Tradition
Since its beginnings in 2003, the regatta has built a reputation as a must-do event on the Kiwi sailing calendar. Many return year after year for the camaraderie, the world-class setting and the thrill of lining up against top competition in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.
Looking Ahead
Whether you’re taking part or soaking up the atmosphere, Bay of Islands Race Week promises another fantastic showcase of sailing, teamwork and summer energy. It’s shaping up to be a brilliant week both on and off the water.
