Bay of Islands Marina is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul MacDonald to its Board, effective 1st July 2026. Paul brings a lifelong love of sailing together with extensive experience across New Zealand's marine industry and the global superyacht sector.

Over many years, he held senior roles with both Marten Spars and Southern Spars, building strong relationships throughout the marine industry before establishing boutique yacht brokerage, McD Yachts, following his retirement from Southern Spars at the end of 2024.
His appointment further strengthens the Board's marine industry expertise and supports Bay of Islands Marina's ongoing commitment to delivering an outstanding marina experience while continuing to grow one of New Zealand's premier boating destinations.
Paul said the opportunity to join the Board was a natural fit following his retirement.
"Having talked with Sarah and Kevin, they said they were looking for someone with Industry experience to join the board. As I had just retired from Southern Spars, that was an area where I thought I would have plenty to contribute – hence my interest in the opportunity."
A lifelong sailor, Paul has spent much of his career working alongside boat owners, builders and marine businesses in New Zealand and internationally. His combination of industry knowledge and personal passion for boating gives him a strong appreciation of the important role Bay of Islands Marina plays in supporting recreational boating, the local marine industry and visitors to the region.
Looking ahead, Paul is focused on helping the marina continue to evolve while ensuring customers enjoy an exceptional experience.
"Typically, a good organisation is one that can grow/develop, be prosperous and give its customers a good experience. If I can help BOI Marina achieve this, then that's a good result."
Away from his professional career, Paul's passion for sailing continues to shape his connection with the marine environment, bringing a perspective grounded in both industry expertise and a genuine love of being on the water.
Bay of Islands Marina warmly welcomes Paul to the Board and looks forward to the knowledge, experience and perspective he will bring as the marina continues to build on its reputation as one of New Zealand's leading boating destinations.
