Opua is located 5 minutes by car from Paihia, the tourism heart of the Bay of Islands, and 20 minutes from Kerikeri, the largest shopping town in the area and historic Russell is a short ferry ride and drive away. Access to other parts of the country is easy too as the Bay of Islands airport is only 20 minutes away, located just outside of Kerikeri.
