Immigration and boat clearance

For a detailed break-down of New Zealand immigration details and requirements please visit the Yachts and small craft page or the Immigration & visa requirements page of the New Zealand Customs Service website.

There is no way around the paperwork required to stay longer than the initial three-month visa. Consider applying and paying for a nine-month multiple entry visa before entering the country. It may save time and money.

See the New Zealand Customs and New Zealand Immigration websites for additional information.

You can contact New Zealand Customs on 0800 428 786 04 or, if you are outside the country, on +64 9 602 1669. You can also contact our Opua Customs Officer, Gary Burton, directly on 029-6021669.

Quarantine

New Zealand has a six-step quarantine and biosecurity clearance procedure for yachts and other recreational vessels arriving from international waters.

Our quarantine area is on the northern end of the marina, inside the outer breakwater, and is clearly marked. We provide a free disposal for restricted foodstuffs disposal.

Waste discharge and toilet facilities

Opua is a no discharge area. There is a sewerage pump-out facility and there is a toilet on the Q dock for your convenience.

See the marina map for the locations of both of these.

Registration and berth paperwork

Once your vessel is secure and any Customs and quarantine inspections have been carried out please pop into the Marina office to say hi and complete a short rental form. Our friendly staff will do all they can to ensure you have a memorable stay in New Zealand. They are here to answer your questions and assist in every way they can.
